This beautiful little song was the first one I created to support my own daughter when it came time to get dressed or put on a coat. It’s still my favorite of all my songs and after many years of singing it with children, it’s still the one that continues to amaze me the most. It gently transforms an everyday routine into a precious moment of connection between us.
Marla’s Tip - I sing this song while kneeling in front of the child holding open a sock or a sleeve. Before long, most children begin joining in by putting their arm or foot into the clothing themselves. I repeat the song, changing the words to suit each garment as we go: “little foot”, “little arm”, head, button, zipper, until the child is dressed.
