I created Kind Words to encourage children to say “please” when asking me for something, and also to remind them to phrase it as a question rather than simply telling me what they want. As children learn language and how to use it, I feel it’s important to subtly guide them towards this social skill so their relationships and friendships can grow through respectful communication.
Marla’s Tip - I sing this song often when I compliment a child using lovely manners or when I gently remind a child to say “please”. Sometimes the children will repeat the lyrics back to me “manners ARE kind!” and we have a little chat about it.
