Tidy Up Crane

Many years ago, I created this song for my son, who needed a little extra encouragement when it came to tidying his room. I wanted to make it more fun for him. He loved vehicles so I wondered whether pretending to be a crane might make packing away more playful. Since then, I’ve worked with countless children who also love to pretend they’re cranes and so they tidy up the room enthusiastically.

Marla’s Tip - Children are usually keen to join in with the actions, although it doesn’t always happen the first time. Like all of my songs, familiarity is what brings the magic. At ‘Teamwork Time’, I often alternate this song with our Tidy Up Teamwork song. Together, they keep packing away fresh, playful, and engaging for the children. At the end of the song, the truck drives away with it’s load, so the children and I make a truck horn sound together before beginning the next round of singing and packing away. It just adds to the fun and the children love it.
