I created this song for a little boy who was learning to use the toilet. I wanted him to feel proud of himself and celebrate each new success along the way. Over the years, I’ve sung this song with many children at a time when they needed a little extra reassurance. Repeatedly, I’ve seen them enjoy the emotional boost and moment of connection that this song brings to toilet time.
Marla’s Tip - Children usually ask me to sing this song again and again. I simply sit with them while they’re on the toilet and sing together. Before long, they become so absorbed in the song that they relax and forget about the pressure of the toileting process. I change the lyrics to suit genders and sometimes the children proudly repeat the words themselves: “I am a big girl!” or “I am a big boy!” Those little moments always make me smile.
