I created this song because repeatedly, whether in the care of myself or parents, I see children desperately trying to open gates and burst through them on their own. Parents become anxious, children run. So, I wondered if a gentle little song sung at that transitional moment might help children pause, slow down and wait safely at gates before moving on together. From then on, the children in my care respond happily and patiently to this song.
Marla’s Tip - Before long, children join me singing this song. It’s catchy and easy for children to join in with. Then they like to play a game at the gate and ask me to guess what their password is for the day before I can open the gate. It’s a game the children created themselves, and it gently slows the whole transition down for everyone.
